A bit about Scribes Valley Publishing
Well, we've done it. We've created a BLOG. Seems like everybody has one these days, so we've jumped on the bandwagon and we're out of the chute.
First, a bit about Scribes Valley Publishing. We're a small, independent publisher started in 2003, and based in Knoxville, Tennessee. We were founded on the idea that most "big" publishing houses have lost sight of their original purpose: to produce great, entertaining works while giving exposure to writers who have something to say. Instead, they concentrate all efforts on large profit margins and handle only those authors with the best commercial demographics. If you didn't have a bestseller last year, they won't even look at you.
Which leaves us to wonder how many writing geniuses have been left in the dust, their aspirations squelched, because they didn't have the right agent, didn't know the cousin of a friend who married the daughter of a publisher, or weren't given the encouragement to pursue their talents?
There is an enormous well of talent in the writing world. Thousands of authors who pour their soul into each word and create works of art, yet largely go unnoticed. Those are the writers we're looking for.
What we do:
We run an annual short story writing contest and publish the winners in an anthology each year.
We also do a fun and challenging weekly project on our website called the “U-Write-It Challenge.” We give the author the first sentence of a story and they give us the rest, in 150 words or less, of the story. Submissions are published on our website. Authors from all over the world have participated in this project with new ones coming in every week.
Our first novel is: "Lessons From the Gypsy Camp" by Elizabeth Appell, an author from California that is headed for great things in the writing world. Lessons has garnered many favorable reviews and we are contacted often by readers who have discovered this gem of a book.
We've just started into the world of e-Books. “Key to Love” – an inspirational novel by bestselling New Zealand author Carolyn Ann Aish is our flagship into the waters of electronic publishing.
In the specialty book department, we've published a genealogical book by Donald R. Repsher entitled "Repsher Origins" which chronicles the Repsher family surname, beginning with its German roots in the 12th century.
